There have been a lot of changes recently in Illinois when it comes to our beloved cannabis plant. A new program has launched in the state, and now, even more patients can sign up and receive their medical marijuana card in half the time! Things are happening fast here and more laws and policies are constantly changing and taking effect.

Terpenes are these oily compounds secreted from the trichomes of the cannabis plant. This is what gives different cannabis strains their distinct aroma. More than a couple hundred terpenes are found in cannabis. Terpenes should be fairly easy for one to understand if you think about the natural world outside of cannabis. Different herbs, spices, flowers, and vegetables have their own terpene profile. The easy way to define terpenes is just by the smell of some of these herbs and spices in our every day life.

In my last post I went over a lot of the details of the Pilot Program: how to get your card, trustworthy sites to link you to help on getting your card, where the Program is at now in terms of statistics, and a little bit about the politics involved. For this update, I'd like to touch some more on the politics agenda, but I first must point out that I am by no means an expert on this subject with cannabis. Discussing politics is typically my least favorite thing to do, and for the most part, I try to ignore it as much as possible. With so many things changing with a new presidency, it is hard not to get involved and make sure the people who represent you, actually represent you!

From what I understand, Illinois has issued a temporary program to allow patients to consume medical cannabis known as the Illinois Medical Cannabis Pilot Program (MCPP). Effective August 1, 2013, MCPP will last until July 1, 2020....
